John Thomas
Born in Chalford. Sculptor who superintended the external sculpture of the Houses of Parliament. Sculpture in memory of RIchard Thomas, his brother and my ancestor in Chalford Church. Another brother, William, became an architect of many fine buidings including churches and cathedrals in Birmingham, Leamington Spa and Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where in June last year a plaque was unveiled on the 200th anniversary of his birth. I have researched the family over a number of years and would happy to provide information for anyone else interested.

James Bradley
Bradley was born in 1693 at Sherborne Gloucestershire and became the third Astronomer Royal (after Flamsteed and Halley) in 1742. He died at Chalford in Skiveralls House) on 13 July 1762.
He may well be Chalfords most, perhaps only, important resident.
