Monday June 12
th
7.30pm

Present: Sue Wise, Ann Bracewell, Colin Willmore, Karen Richardson, Charlotte Swindall. Apologies: Carole Clayton, Jim Bocock, Lorna Conway

Badges. The winning design (by Tristan Idema-Trehan in Y1), is being made into a badge and 100 of them should be with Sue by Thursday. The plan is to sell them, for 50p each, at the Treasure Hunt BBQ on Friday night (16th). Buy one quick, as they are bound to disappear quickly!

Petition. Ann has had a letter from Chas Fellowes to say that a petition of 1000 (or more) names would have significant impact if delivered to the Environment Committee. Ann has agreed to type a form to go in the book wallets, for families (and friends and relatives) to sign and return. We will also leave petition forms at the Post Office, and perhaps the butcher’s shop. Ann has also agreed to find out the names of the members of the Environment Committee.

Colin has had a letter from John Lindsay, regarding progress on the plan, in which he says that there are two technical problems that the survey had uncovered. Colin agreed to write and ask what these are. Perhaps Mike Smith could then be asked for his opinion. The letter talks about a further decision being in the hands of the Environment Committee, who were also mentioned in the letter from Chas Fellowes, so it is evidently wise to keep the pressure on them.

Walking Bus. Sue has spoken to Andre Bovington about this and knows what needs to be done. Agreed to discuss the way forward at our next meeting, with a view to organising this for early in the Autumn term. Sue has names and numbers of interested parents.

CRAG on-line. CRAG now has its own e-mail address, which is crag20@yahoo.ie (thank you, Karen and Philip).

CRAG also has it’s own page/s on the Chalford Hill Web Site, which you can find by typing http://chalfordhill.web-centre.com/crag.htm . Minutes of meetings will be published there, as well as any other news, progress reports, etc.

Charlotte has also agreed to design a standard letter head for CRAG, which she will e-mail to our address. This should be used by anyone sending out any correspondence on behalf of the group.

P.R./Advertising. Jim has written a piece for the Herald putting the case for the planned changes outside school. Sue is writing to the Herald to publicise our Walk to School Week, and has sent a copy of the badge and news of the Walk to School Week to the Citizen. She will look into e-mailing the badge and news to the SNJ.

Ann has painted 3 boards to go up round the village advertising the Walk to School Week and asking people to slow down. She (read Rog), will put these up round the village at the weekend. One on Abnash, one on the brow of Middle Hill and one on the way up Coppice Hill.

Sue has 3 more 30mph signs. She will put these up at the weekend as well, one at Sawyers, one below the school and one at the top of the school garden.

The meeting ended just after 9pm.

The next meeting will be at 7.30pm at school on Tuesday 11th July. Do please try to attend.

CRAG – OUR MISSION STATEMENT

"To achieve, without compromising its character, an

environment in Chalford where people of all ages can

walk in peace and safety, as befits a village in rural

Gloucestershire"

Present: Sue Wise, Colin Willmore, Roland South, Irene Woolf, Lorna Conway, Karen Richardson, Charlotte Swindall, Jim Bocock, Ann Bracewell

Apologies: Deborah Pearson, Karen Blakelock, Cris Buckley

It was good to have such a good turn out and to welcome new faces, new ideas and enthusiasms to the group. Sue Wise kicked off with a resume of the situation to date. Although the group was originally set up with a general and grand aim of making the roads in Chalford Hill safer (see our fabulous new mission statement above – thank you, Colin), our focus has been to start with making the roads around the school safer.

Since the last meeting, various letters have been sent and received, and it appears that the plan for road safety outside the school is moving slowly and arduously through the various local government processes. Nothing is certain at this, or any stage of the process, so it is felt that pressure must be kept up to push for our scheme, which will, inevitably, be competing with other road schemes for funding.

To this end, it was agreed that,

As has already been mentioned, it was agreed that the next ‘Walk to School Week’ should be in the week beginning 19th June. There was some discussion about trials of a ‘walking bus’ but the insurance implications of this seemed enormous. Jim agreed to contact Andre Bovington to find out more about the ‘walking bus’ schemes and to find out whether they are successful in areas like Chalford Hill (where, for example, there are no pavements). Jim also agreed to find out who had made and put up the large sign in Abnash advertising the Spring Fete and whether this and others could be re-used to publicise the ‘Walk to School Week’?

It was agreed that in order to get the children more involved in the ‘Walk to School Week’ we should organise a competition for the children to design a badge which could be worn during that week. Charlotte agreed to speak to the badge maker in Stroud to find out about costs, timings, etc. Sue agreed to write a letter to go into the book wallets, publicising the proposed road changes, the ‘Walk to School Week’ and including a form to enter the competition. The entry fee for the competition (to cover costs only) would be decided once Charlotte had the details from the badge makers. This letter should go out in the book wallets before half term (end of next week).

Colin agreed to contact Ian Cooper to progress chase, as certain key stages should have been passed in the last 2 weeks. Hopefully, public consultation should be happening fairly soon. Colin also agreed to give Ian Cooper an address to write to as well as an e-mail address. Karen Richardson agreed to set up an e-mail address for CRAG and to give the details of this to Colin to send to Ian.

Sue Wise was elected Chairperson, and Ann Bracewell was elected Secretary. No other officers were thought necessary at present.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 13th June at 7.30pm in the school office.

The meeting ended at 9pm.
